First-Time EV Buyer’s Tyre Checklist

OVO Hydro Parking and Event Guide 2026

They may have been an uncommon sight on the road years ago, but electric vehicles (EVs) are EV-erywhere.

In March 2026, EV registrations across Europe soared by 51%, with over half a million new EVs hitting the road in Q1 2026 alone. While the reasons why vary from high petrol prices to environmental concerns, one thing is clear: EVs now account for one in five new car sales across the continent.

Of course, many of these purchases will be first-time EV buyers who may be unaware of their unique considerations. No need to fret, though, as that’s exactly why we made this checklist to help address concerns about added weight, rolling resistance and more!

In addition, we’ve made things easier by recommending EV-ready tyres that excel in different categories.

Weight Factor

Due to their enormous lithium battery packs, an EV typically weighs a lot more than a conventional car of the same size: normally around 20-30% more.

As a result, it’s no surprise that many first-time EV drivers can find themselves replacing their tyres sooner as they aren’t aware of the support needed to accommodate this extra weight.

Thankfully, EV tyres are designed with this in mind. For peace of mind, you should always check that your tyre’s load rating is marked at XL (Extra Load) or HL (High Load).

✅ Does the tyre have an XL (Extra Load) or HL (High Load) rating?

🏆Recommendation - Yokohama Advan Sport EV: Rock-solid reinforced construction designed to carry the heavy-duty load of modern EV batteries with ease.
