If a warning light appears on your Volkswagen dashboard your car is alerting you to a potential issue.
Some warnings are more critical than others. For the majority of cases you will likely that the issue is either minor and/or informational. Other more serious faults that require immediate action should be taken seriously and dealt with sooner rather than later.
Understanding these symbols can help you avoid costly repairs and prevent breakdowns. As well as keeping your vehicle safe to drive.
VW Warning Light Colours Explained
Like other manufacturers, Volkswagen uses a colour-coded system to show how serious a warning is.
| Colour | Meaning | Action Required |
|---|---|---|
| Red | Serious fault or safety issue | Stop driving as soon as it is safe |
| Amber (Yellow) | Problem requiring attention | Check and repair soon |
| Green / Blue / White | System active or informational | No action needed |
As a general rule:
- Red means stop
- Amber means investigate
- Green means the system is working.
